A decision on my Early Decision application has been deferred. What does this mean?
The selection committee would like to review your application in the context of the Regular Decision pool. Your decision will be announced by the end of March. Applicants admitted during Regular Decision will have until May 1 to inform us if they plan to matriculate.
If I applied to a Coordinated Dual-Degree, Accelerated, or Specialized Program, will my application be considered again for both the Coordinated Dual-Degree, Accelerated, or Specialized Program and the single-degree school I selected?
Your defer letter will indicate the school or program to which you have been deferred. If you applied to a Coordinated Dual-Degree, Accelerated or Specialized Program and your letter indicates that you have been deferred to your single-degree choice, then you are only being considered for your single-degree choice. If your letter indicates that you are deferred from your Coordinated Dual-Degree, Accelerated or Specialized Program, then you are being considered for both your Coordinated Dual-Degree, Accelerated or Specialized Program and your single-degree choice.
Will I be required to submit additional materials?
You will be required to submit a Mid-Year Report to update our office on your recent academic performance in school. Your school counselor should submit the Mid-Year Report to us through the Common Application, the Coalition Application, via digital document transfer (Parchment, Naviance, SCOIR, MaiaLearning, Cialfo, Slate.org, etc.) or by email to documents@admissions.upenn.edu by mid-February.
Should I send any other supplementary materials?
If you would like to send additional information that sheds new light on your candidacy, please submit your update through your Penn Applicant Portal. Our form will only allow you to submit an update once, so we recommend you take time to collect any new information or recognition you may have earned since submitting your Early Decision application and upload one comprehensive document by the end of January. Please be judicious in the information you choose to include in your update.
I did not submit test scores as part of my Early Decision application. Do I have the option to submit them for consideration in Regular Decision?
Yes. You do have the option to submit test scores. You can update your selection on your Penn Applicant Portal.
If I am admitted, will I still be considered for financial aid?
Yes. If you applied for financial aid, that application will still be evaluated at the time of your admission. If you are admitted and have submitted all required forms for financial aid, you will receive your financial aid package by the end of March. Please check the Student Financial Aid office's financial aid requirements for Regular Decision applicants.
